Overview
Client: District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS)
Type: College-to-Client Transition Project
Industry: Government, Early Education
Scope: Visual Identity, Print Design, Content Layout, Branding System
As part of an initiative to support early childhood education across Washington, D.C., this project involved creating a cohesive visual identity for DCPS’s Early Childhood Education Division. I worked with internal goals and guidelines to build an approachable and professional system of materials for educators, families, and administrators
The Challenge
The division needed a brand presence that could speak to a wide range of audiences—teachers, parents, and internal teams—without losing clarity or warmth. The challenge was to create print materials and visuals that felt both institutional and inviting, balancing tone and usability across formats.
My Approach
Working within DCPS’s design framework, I crafted a modular system of layouts and brand assets for internal communication, events, and parent-facing collateral. The design emphasized visual clarity, accessibility, and early-learning themes without relying on overly childish visuals. Key contributions included:
Developing layouts for annual reports, newsletters, and event materials
Designing custom icons and section visuals to improve clarity and consistency
Balancing educational tone with visual warmth and usability
Collaborating with content stakeholders to align design with messaging goals

Results & Outcome
This project delivered a reusable visual framework that improved clarity and readability across stakeholder-facing materials and internal communications. It helped lay the groundwork for future campaigns under the DCPS early childhood umbrella by enhancing brand alignment and communication efficiency.
Importantly, this work marked a turning point in my career—transitioning academic design into real-world public sector impact. Through structured visual storytelling, I saw how even small brand shifts could meaningfully support clarity, engagement, and organizational alignment in an institutional setting.
