Overview

Client: DC Public Schools
Industry: Education, Children’s Media
Scope: Brand Identity, Campaign Strategy, Social Media, YouTube Visual Design

Scribbles and Friends is a YouTube series launched by DC Public Schools to promote early literacy and learning through animated characters. I was brought in to help brand the show, design its visual assets, and ensure the series maintained consistency across digital platforms while engaging young audiences and their caregivers.

The Challenge

DCPS needed a brand identity that would feel fresh, friendly, and consistent across video graphics, social media, and parent-facing content. The challenge was to create a system that captured the energy of the show while aligning with DCPS’s broader brand standards and accessibility needs.

My Approach

I developed a playful yet structured brand system that could scale across YouTube thumbnails, intro graphics, and supporting materials like social templates and flyers. Using bold colors, friendly typography, and simple character framing, the brand maintained high visual energy without overwhelming young viewers. Key contributions included:

  • Designing 25+ reusable social templates for promoting episodes and educational messages

  • Creating 12+ YouTube graphics, including intros, outros, and lower-thirds

  • Establishing a cohesive visual style that balanced fun, clarity, and accessibility

  • Supporting channel strategy through visual consistency across platforms

Results & Outcome

The Scribbles and Friends rebrand significantly increased visual consistency and visibility across DCPS’s early childhood platforms. By aligning the tone with child-friendly design cues and creating a reusable brand system, internal teams could maintain the identity with minimal design support. Today, the brand continues to serve as a model for how public education can produce mission-driven, audience-aligned content—engaging families citywide with messaging that’s both clear and emotionally resonant.
